How to start
- In Overwatch, open Custom Games and create a lobby.
- Open the settings, choose Import Code and enter GWHEA.
- Set the map and start the game.
Captains
Each team has a captain. By default it is the player in the first slot of the team.
Until the ban phase starts, any player can take over as captain of their team by holding Interact + Ability 2 for one second. Holding it again hands the captain role to the next player in the team. If a team has no captain during the ban phase, a player can take over the same way.
The captain is shown in yellow with (C) behind the name.
Who bans first
As soon as both captains are in the game, a 3 second countdown starts, then the ban phase begins. The game does not decide who bans first: the teams agree on it in chat. Both captains can ban at the same time, whoever bans first has the first ban.
As on FACEIT, the team that lost the last map bans first. On the first map it is the higher seed.
Ban phase
Each captain bans one hero. The captain picks the hero in the normal hero menu and then holds Interact + Primary Fire. A bar in the middle of the screen fills up in one second, then the hero is banned. Letting go early cancels the ban. Captains are never held in place: they can move and switch heroes the whole time. To switch to the hero you want to ban, go back to spawn as usual.
A team cannot ban a hero from the same role as the other team's ban, so whoever bans first takes that role. If the captain tries anyway, the game shows a message instead of banning.
The setup timer stays paused until both teams have banned. Banned heroes are locked for both teams for the whole map. During the ban phase every player may pick any hero. After the bans each hero can only be played once per team. If two players have the same hero, the player higher up in the team keeps it.
Your own ban is shown on the left, the enemy ban on the right, until the match starts.
Ready up
After the bans everyone picks a hero and readies up. When all players are ready, a 5 second countdown starts the match.
Reset bans
The bans can only be reset if both captains agree. One captain holds Interact + Melee for one second, the other captain confirms within 15 seconds by holding the same keys.
After a reset the countdown starts again and both captains ban again.

The host can change every key in the workshop settings. The game always shows your own key bindings.
